Everyone has a story about getting into racehorse ownership - what's yours?
This is a ripper story! I fell in love with this big baldy faced yearling whilst riding trackwork for Ellerton Zahra at Flemington, who was eventually named Karmonaaron. I rode him for around 2 years before his ownership group decided to move him on to focus on city class horses. I purchased Aaron, syndicated him between family and friends and sent him up to Darwin to race. He became my first winner as an owner, who then went on to win 3 in a row, it doesn’t get much better than that! Recently we made the call the retire Aaron, of course he wasn’t going far.. He is now enjoying life with me off the track and will begin training shortly to become an Eventer.
What's been your most memorable experience as an owner so far?
The first winner in my own colours. Mr Boomjangles – A horse and a day I will never forget!
If you could own any horse in the world (past or present) which one would it be?
Definitely, Black Caviar – Unbeaten!
We know it's impossible to stop at one, so what's your ownership stable looking like now?
Numbers aren’t currently looking too bad with a few mares off to stud this Spring – Current total is 11!
How do you decide which horses to get involved with?
I’m very lucky to work for prominent Bloodstock Agent, Sheamus Mills. Through him I have been spoilt with excellent guidance along with the advantage of networking with Australia’s best Thoroughbred professionals. I buy all of my tried horses myself, I’d like to think my judgement isn’t too bad!
Anything you didn’t know at the start of your ownership journey that you wished you knew?
I wish I knew how many amazing people I would meet. Some of my best friends are racing friends, I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world!
